South of Melton Mowbray, the Little Dalby Estate is the largest Trust estate, covering 5,300 acres.

Historically, it is famous for fox- hunting and as the origin of Stilton cheese.

Today, much of the Estate is arable, but dairy, beef and sheep farms are also prominent.

The Estate includes Burrough Hill, an iron age hill fort with stunning views over the surrounding area. Being so close to major centres of population, Burrough Hill is currently leased to the County Council as a country park. ECT has added to the recreational attraction of the area by opening a permissive path — The Dalby Hills Path — to walkers and riders.
