Purchased by Ernest Cook in 1935, this was his first estate. It continued to occupy a special place in his affection, despite the fact that, for many years, it was the one that needed the most financial support.

Trent epitomises the old- fashioned country estate, with farms, cottages, a post office, and a public house all owned by the Trust.

The farms are of modest size, with a good balance of arable and livestock, but the soils are exceptionally fertile and the diversity of wild plants and animals is profuse.
